Todays guest is Anthony Clavane. Clavane is the author of 4 books, including 'Promised Land: A Northern Love Story' which won both the Football Book of the Year and the Sports Book of the Year in 2011. He is a teacher, and he writes on sport for the Sunday Mirror, and contributes to other publications including The New Statesman and the New European. His most recent book ‘Moving the Goalposts: A Yorkshire Tragedy' was just re-released in paperback. He is also a playwright and has written two plays, ‘Playing The Joker’, and ‘Leeds Lads’. A Leeds man, Clavane joined me to discuss his book ‘Does Your Rabbi Know You’re Here?’
The book is about the history of Jews and football. However, what made it especially interesting to me is it is at its core an immigrants tale, and takes on issues that are relevant to immigrant populations in the UK today. So if you're interested in Judaism or immigration & football this is the episode for you.
